Weather warnings are being issued for parts of Scotland with heavy rain and snow expected to fall.
The Met Office issued yellow Be Aware warnings for the Highlands, Grampian, Tayside, Fife and the Lothian Borders on Thursday.
Persistent rainfall will be accompanied by strong gusty winds and some higher areas are being warned to expect heavy snow.
Motorists are being warned to be aware of poor driving conditions, particulary on the A9 or A95, caused by standing water on the roads and an increased risk of localised flooding.
Experts say up to 60mm of rain in higher areas, with up to 40mm in other parts.
In Aberdeenshire on Thursday morning the B977 Fintray to Kintore road was closed to flooding while parts of the A941 Rothes to Dufftown road was flooded and passable with care.
STV weatherman Sean Batty said: “Heavy rain has fallen over Moray and parts of Aberdeenshire in the past 24 hours and is expected to continue throughout Thursday.
“The rain will ease for all areas through Thursday night as colder air starts to spread in from the north.
“A mix of sleet, snow and hail showers can be expected over the Outer Hebrides over the early hours of Friday. A band of heavy rain and sleet with hill snow will move south across Moray and Aberdeenshire on Friday morning, with several centimetres of snow accumulating over higher levels.”
He added: “Friday’s snow could pose problems over the higher routes such as the A9 and A95. Drivers should take care in these areas.
“After the wet and wintry weather the majority of Scotland can look forward to mainly dry and bright weather for the weekend and next week.”
Walkers were warned to stay away from the Head Wall and Coronation Wall areas of Cairngorm Mountain due to a high avalanche risk.
