The plant has been built into a breakwater at MutrikuAn Inverness-based marine energy company has put what has been described as the world’s first wave power plant into commercial operation.
Voith Hydro Wavegen’s plant in northern Spain has been taken over by Ente Vasco de la Energía, the Basque Energy Board.
The Highlands company built the Limpet demonstrator wave project on Islay in Argyll.
It is also working on plans to harness wave power at Siadar off the west coast of Lewis on the Western Isles.
The Basque Energy Board plant has 16 turbines housed within a breakwater at the port of Mutriku.
It was built under a £1m contract and has been designed for a 25-year operational life to provide electricity for 250 homes.
