>> The newly formed Aberdeen City and Shire Area Tourism Partnership are seeking to appoint a highly experienced tourism professional to lead, develop and engage with the tourism industry in order to facilitate its growth and success.  The Area Tourism Partnership is a public private partnership established to rejuvenate and support the area’s tourism industry. This post is financially supported by Aberdeen City and Shire Economic Futures and the post holder will be employed by Aberdeenshire Council on behalf of the Partnership.

>> You will be an enthusiastic person looking for a challenge in an exciting new role. With a relevant degree and experience of tourism partnership work including a sound knowledge of the industry and its stakeholders you are expected to develop, implement and deliver a regional tourism strategy and action plan.

>> You will spend considerable time meeting with businesses, tourism groups and organisation. You will be proficient in the use of social media and interactive methods to engage, encourage and help develop the tourism industry to grow it present impact on the economy of Aberdeen City and Shire.

>> Based initially in the Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce office; you will work on a flexible and Worksmart basis and travel throughout Aberdeen City and Shire. This position is designated as a ‘flexible’ post as detailed on the Worksmart website – http://worksmart.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/

Job Purpose


>> To work in partnership with the Area Tourism Partnership (ATP) members to develop an area tourism strategy for Aberdeen City and Shire.
 

>> To facilitate the ongoing competitiveness and development of the tourism industry in Aberdeen City and Shire and provide linkage between the public sector, the three local Destination Management Organisations (DMO) and the tourism industry itself.


>> To engage with key tourism stakeholders and businesses to increase partnership working and to delivery the ATP’s strategy and the national growth ambition for the tourism sector.

 
>> To co-ordinate the activities of the ATP Core Group and wider Industry Grouping


>> To maintain relationships with the industry, the ATP and ACSEF

Main Tasks


  • Work in partnership with the Area Tourism Partnership (ATP) Core Group, private and public sector partners and industry groups to scope, develop, write and consult on an area tourism strategy for Aberdeen City and Shire ensuring its relevance to ACSEF and in line with the national tourism objectives
  • Develop and coordinate deliver of an annual action plan for the ATP based on the Area Tourism Strategy
  • Develop effective relationships and maintain a network with the Aberdeen City and Shire’s tourism industry, DMOs and public sector contacts to proactively develop strong and positive opportunities to increase awareness of the actions outlined in the area tourism strategy and to ensure opportunities and/or threats to the tourism strategy are identified as early as possible
  • To shape the revitalised Area Tourism Partnership by working closely with the Core Group and providing direction and focus to drive it forward within the parameters of ACSEF’s strategy and action plan
  • Design, co-ordinate and deliver an annual programme of events and engagement activities for the ATP members in order to increase partnership working and therefore the national growth ambition for the tourism sector
  • Source and secure funding to enable the ATP to develop and deliver the strategic action plan
  • Within the relevant public sector bodies, inform and assist decision makers in their understanding of the opportunities and challenges the tourism industry faces locally
  • Write and produce an annual report on the ATP’s activities
  • Publicise the activities and achievement of the ATP and the industry generally via press releases, publications, web sites, social media and other media as required
  • Identify and promote key funding opportunities to help regional tourism businesses develop their product
  • Report information to key internal audiences regarding the project on an ongoing basis and keep abreast of overall trends in the stakeholder sector and report progress on a regular basis to the Core Group and as required to ACSEF Management Team and Board
  • Represent the Tourism sector in Aberdeen City and Shire as required
     

Experience/Qualifications/Personal Qualities


>> Essential Criteria

  • Significant experience of working in a partnership environment
  • Experience of strategy development and stakeholder engagement
  • Considerable tourism industry experience
  • Communicating effectively through various forms
  • Working at senior (e.g. CEO / Director) levels of organisations or government
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Power Point and Excel and webbased software
  • The ability to lead and motivate others, energising them and gaining their commitment to a vision, thereby enabling them to contribute to the best of their ability
  • The ability to seek out, develop and maintain external and internal relationships in order to promote information sharing, influence decision making and raise the organisation’s profile within the business community
  • The drive to identify or anticipate current or future challenges and opportunities
  • The ability to convince, persuade, influence or impress others towards a point of view
  • Able to lead discussion and facilitate meetings with a range of opinions and views
  • Presentational skills to wide range of audiences
  • Ability to travel throughout Aberdeen City and Shire and nationally
