On Monday 9 June, 2012, the Olympic Torch will be carried through the streets of Stornoway by 20 inspirational torchbearers from the Outer Hebrides. It is anticipated that, despite the early hour, hundreds of schoolchildren and other members of the public will be in Stornoway on the day to see the torch and the torchbearers. The Runners were selected by public nomination and were chosen for a range of reasons including their contribution to the local community, charitable work and volunteering or sporting achievements Stornoway is one of only eight locations in Scotland to host the Torch Relay.
