Salary: £18,973 – £22,673 (pro-rata)
Hours: 18 (Monday – Wednesday)
Currie Community High School is to the south west of the City of Edinburgh serving Currie, Riccarton, Juniper Green and Baberton communities. The present building was opened in 1966. A major refurbishment (including IT) was completed in 1998. As a community school we deliver a quality community programme.
The school roll is currently 828 (c25% placing requests). We have a high rate of return into senior school.
Our SQA results are above local and national averages. An extensive extra-curricular programme is offered and we have been awarded a third Eco-school Green Flag.
The postholder will be expected to undertake the various responsibilities and tasks associated with this post under the immediate supervision of the Principal Teacher Science and the Business Manager. There are 9 well-equipped science laboratories and a staff base. There are 9 FTE Science teachers including the PT. Courses delivered by the department include: integrated science to S1/2, from S3 discrete sciences are taught at Access, Standard, Intermediate, Higher and Advanced Higher levels. Science support staff include two technicians and two part-time learning assistants. In addition to these duties, the successful candidate will be encouraged to contribute to the wider life of the school

This post is temporary until 29 June 2012 and considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the City of Edinburgh Council.
