End of LEADER 2007-2013 grants scheme

Extra sailings to beat Olympic travel restrictions

Ferry operator Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac) is planning to run extra sailings between the Western Isles and Skye to allow local produce extra time to reach the South of England and negotiate road and security restrictions imposed by the Olympic Games. The extra sailings will operate between Lochmaddy and Uig on Mondays and Wednesdays for seven weeks between 23 July and 5 September, following representations from the Western Isles Fishermen’s Association (WIFA) which was concerned that delays reaching markets would affect the freshness of their catches and potentially lead to lost business.
