Scottish News: 100mph wind warnings as most of Scotland enjoys a warm Christmas Day

Dec 25 2011 A WARNING of severe Christmas Day winds was issued for the far north of Scotland. Gusts of 80mph to 90mph are likely across the Northern Isles, with a risk they could reach up to 100mph in the north of Shetland, according to the Met Office. Parts of northern Scotland and the north of the Western Isles could see gusts of 70mph to 80mph. The Met Office issued an amber alert for the area until around 9pm. The crew of the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov were spotted chucking binbags into the sea – a sanctuary for seals and bottlenose dolphins. Scottish News: Commuters face rush-hour chaos with gales and snow set to hit busy motorways

Dec 12 2011 SNOW and strong winds could leave commuters facing rush-hour disruption on Tuesday morning, Scotland's transport minister has warned. The Met Office has issued severe weather warnings of snow for eight regions of Scotland from 3am for 24 hours. Forecasters have also warned of strong winds with gusts of up to 80mph possible across Argyll and Bute and winds of more than 60mph a possibility throughout the Central belt. Heavy snowfalls above 200 metres could lead to blizzard conditions across higher ground. This could affect Scotland's busiest motorway the M8 around Harthill and the M77 at Fenwick.
