May 8 2012 A BUILDING firm which employs 277 people in Scotland has gone into administration. UBC Group had suffered from the "widespread downturn" affecting the construction industry, administrators Zolfo Cooper said. They said they will continue to trade the group, which has an annual turnover of around £31million, while exploring "all possible options" for its future, including a sale of all or parts of the business. Joint administrator Elizabeth Mackay said: "Unfortunately, the group has suffered from the widespread downturn impacting the construction industry and as a result has experienced a decline in trading performance. Apr 18 2012 John MacDonald performs bungee jump over River Garry A MAN diagnosed with type 1 diabetes almost 50 years ago is said to have become Scotland's oldest bungee jumper. John Macdonald, from Eriskay in the Outer Hebrides, celebrated his 80th birthday at the weekend by throwing himself 40 metres off Garry Bridge in Perthshire. Mr Macdonald was diagnosed in 1964 while serving with the Royal Navy in Brazil. He said he hopes his "leap of faith" will encourage younger people who have diabetes to manage their situation by staying active. He was joined by family and friends as he marked the birthday milestone with Highland Fling Bungee in Killiecrankie. Mr Macdonald said: "I wasn't afraid at all. Apr 10 2012 By Record Reporter harris crash Image 3 SEVEN casualties were airlifted to hospital yesterday after their people-carrier crashed into a loch. Three children, two pensioners and two other adults, all from the same family, were hurt. The crash happened after 4pm on the Tarbert to Leverburgh road on the Isle of Harris. The people-carrier ended up in several feet of water in Loch Bearastadh Mor. One of the occupants is thought to have been trapped in the vehicle. Emergency crews pulled out two of the family through the windscreen. A Coastguard helicopter took the two most badly injured casualties – thought to be the pensioners – to the Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway, Lewis. It then returned for the other five people. Scottish News: Weather warnings issued as snow and ice returns to large parts of Scotland

Jan 19 2012 WEATHER warnings have been issued for large parts of Scotland for today and tomorrow as winter makes a chilly return. The Met Office issued a yellow “be aware” warning for snow in parts of the Highlands, Grampian, Strathclyde, Central and Tayside. And with temperatures plummeting, a yellow alert for ice is in place for south-west Scotland, the Borders and Strathclyde. A Met Office spokesman said snow was expected in the west this morning and again tonight. As the band of weather moves east, patches of snow are forecast on higher ground across most of the country – with up to six inches falling in the Highlands.
