14 December 2011 Last updated at 10:36 Royal Navy destroyer HMS York shadows aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov Warships in a Russian navy task force headed for Syria have sought shelter off the Scottish coast from stormy weather. Elements of the Baltic Fleet - including an aircraft carrier and support ships - started arriving in the Moray Firth on Monday. Russian military news agency Interfax-AVN said on Tuesday the fleet sought shelter in "deteriorating weather". Royal Navy destroyer HMS York was shadowing the vessels. Councils in tug call to minister

5 September 2011 Last updated at 09:41 The current contract for leasing two vessels ends in four weeks The leaders of four local authorities hope to meet UK Shipping Minister Mike Penning and urge a rethink of plans to withdraw emergency coastguard tugs. Highland, Orkney, Shetland and Western Isles councils have opposed UK government proposals to scrap the towing vessels to make savings. The current contract to lease two ships for use by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency ends in four weeks. The government has said companies should pay for towing operations. However, the council leaders have said the tugs, based in the Western Isles and Shetland, play a crucial role protecting Scotland's coast from pollution.
