Wild fires rife in West Highlands

Wild fire at Strontian, Ardnamurchan. WILD fires have been affecting huge areas of the West Highlands with more than 80 wildfire incidents reported in the last three days. Ardnamuchan, Skye and the Western Isles have seen the grass, heather and heathland fires following the recent dry weather. More than 30 fire engines with over 150 firefighters have attended the numerous incidents. In some cases helicopters have also been drafted in to douse the flames. In Ardnamurch, at Eilean Shona fire crews from Fort William, Mallaig, Acharacle, Lochaline and Strontian battled a blaze for 16 hours. Travel disruption following snowfall in the Highlands

White out conditions in Inverness this morning WHITE out conditions across the Highlands left commuters facing travel disruption this morning. Widespread sub-zero road conditions and lying snow meant difficult and icy driving conditions.
