Hospitality Training for Young People

TRAINING for the hospitality industry was on the menu as a group of youngsters gathered at the Dark Island Hotel today. Led by Jayne Kinnear, deputy manager of Aberdeen-based Hospitality Training, the group learned about the importance of creating a good first impression on customers. Entitled ‘The Principles of Customer Service’, the course explored topics including the value of tourism and handling customer concerns. They also learned about how appearances are important in the hospitality industry. The training session was organised by Include-Us in partnership with Visit Scotland and the ‘Outer Hebrides Tourism Industry Association’. The course has been adapted to suit the needs of businesses in the Outer Hebrides. Among those taking art were Hannah McDougall, 17, from Paible. Master Scots fiddler leads symposium and workshop in Benbecula

By Martin Graham Master Scots fiddler Alasdair Fraser visited the Isle of Benbecula hotel today to host a symposium for local music students this morning and lead a fiddle workshop open to members of the public in the afternoon. Fury as NHS spends £5M on taxis to ferry patients around Scotland

27 Apr 2013 07:24 DAMNING figures have been obtained through freedom of information but some health chiefs claim cabs may be the only option of transport in some cases. HEALTH chiefs have been accused of running a chauffeur service after it emerged they spent more than £5million on taxis for patients. One health board – NHS Ayrshire and Arran – splashed out almost £1.9million on private taxis since 2007. NHS Highland paid £1.14million in cab fares for the same period. But neither would reveal how much of the total went on ferrying patients. NHS Lanarkshire admitted they spent nearly £1million in five years ferrying patients by cabs. Whisky Galore Diver Bob Pert brings up bottles of whiskey the wreck of the sunken ship Daily Mirror TWO rare bottles of whisky salvaged from a shipwreck which inspired a book and film are to be auctioned. The collector's items were part of the cargo on the 8,000-ton cargo ship the SS Politician which sank off the shores of Eriskay in the Outer Hebrides in 1941 and inspired the book and film Whisky Galore. The bottles, which have documents of authentication, are to be sold as a pair by Britain's biggest internet-only auction site Scotch Whisky Auctions, based in Glasgow, with bidding opening...
