Business & Consumer News: 238 jobs axed as three Scottish construction firms fold following cashflow problems

May 11 2012 ALMOST 250 people have been made redundant after three construction firms ceased trading. Another firm remains in administration but it is hoped that a sale will be arranged. Zolfo Cooper were appointed administrators of the businesses, which traded as UBC Group, Wyvis Building Services, Wyvis Roofing and Mardon Project Services, earlier this month. They were appointed after the businesses, referred to as "the Group", experienced cash flow problems due to "extremely challenging trading conditions". Following in-depth analysis of the Group's financial position and meetings with key stakeholders, administrators said they found that the Group's financial position was unsustainable. Today they announced that trading will cease with immediate effect at UBC Group, Wyvis Buildings Services and Mardon Project Services. There will be 238 redundancies as a result: 98 in...

Scottish News: Elderly man and woman injured as gales blow over caravans

Sep 21 2011 AN elderly man and woman were taken to hospital after high winds wreaked havoc in a caravan park. The Fire and Rescue Service said at least nine caravans were blown over at a site in Ayrshire as westerly gusts blasted Scotland. Emergency services were called to the Ranch Caravan site in Maybole at around 12.20pm today. No-one was trapped and everyone was accounted for, Fire and Rescue officers said. The man and the woman were taken to Ayr Hospital by ambulance after suffering cuts, bruises and slight lacerations.
