Community Energy Scotland today responded to the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change annual report on fuel poverty which shows that one third of Scottish households are living in fuel poverty. The Chief Executive of Community Energy Scotland, Nicholas Gubbins, commented: ‘This shows how vital it is to cut the link between energy bills and fossil-fuel price rises – which will only happen with much greater uptake of renewable energy heat and power’. At least 18 vessels are anticipated to visit Stornoway this weekend as part of The Tall Ships Race 2011. Stornoway is a designated guest port for the event. Consultation on proposals for crofting elections Plans to make the Crofters Commission more democratic and accountable have been unveiled today by Environment Minister Stewart Stevenson. The proposals recommend that the majority of the Crofters Commission, to be renamed the Crofting Commission from April 2012, should be elected by crofters. A consultation on the draft plans, which starts today, also covers the constituency boundaries for the elections and who should be eligible to vote.
