Review underway to determine case for special area of conservation (SAC) near Barra

AN INDEPENDENT review is to examine the scientific case for a proposed special area of conservation (SAC) in the Western Isles. Scottish Natural Heritage earlier held a public consultation inviting views on designating the Sound of Barra as an SAC. It recommended designation was needed because of the important marine species the area supports.
