Heavy rain and storm surges expected to batter Scotland overnight

STV 2 March 2014 17:24 GMT Flood alerts have been issued across Scotland as heavy rain and storm surges are expected to batter the country. The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) has issued four flood alerts for the east of the country, the Highlands and Western Isles and Dumfries and Galloway. The rain is expected to spread across the country throughout Sunday night and into Monday morning, with downpours forecast to become "heavy and prolonged for several hours". Horse evicted after living in woman’s front room for two years

STV 27 February 2014 13:41 GMT A horse who lived in a woman's front room has been evicted by council officials. The adult Connemara pony, known as Grey Lady Too, was removed from the house at Broadbay View, Back, on the Isle of Lewis on Thursday at noon. The animal's owner Stephanie Ann Noble, 67, was at home when two animal welfare officers from Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, the Western Isles Council, arrived with a horse box and two local horse experts. Grey Lady Too was grazing on a patch of ground opposite Ms Noble's home. It is understood the horse offered no resistance when she was led away by the officials. Residents warned to be vigilant as flooding hits coastal areas

STV 1 February 2014 13:09 GMT A high tide and strong winds have caused flooding in the town of Stornoway on Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. Water swept over the town pier at around 7am on Saturday, leading to road closures and some minor flooding to premises close to the seafront. Some residents even took to using surfboards to traverse flooded streets in the town. Environment minister Paul Wheelhouse wrote on Twitter: "Some flooding o'night on sea frontage in Stornoway, but not yet received any reports of property damage, as responders had deployed sandbags." The flooding had mostly subsided by mid-morning on Saturday, police said. Fuel duty discount scheme could be extended to more parts of Scotland

STV 24 January 2014 10:13 GMT Motorists in more areas of Scotland could see their fuel bills cut by up to 5p a litre under a proposed expansion of a duty discount scheme. The UK Government has asked the European Commission to consider seven new regions across Scotland.
