Liam murder accused face trial

5 November 2012 Last updated at 11:48 The men have been accused of murdering Liam Aitchison last year Two men are to stand trial in February charged with the murder of Western Isles teenager Liam Aitchison. Johnathan MacKinnon, 22, of Elgin, and Stefan Millar, 21, of Inverness, appeared for a preliminary hearing at the High Court in Glasgow. The pair were accused of killing 16-year-old Liam, from South Uist, at a property in the Steinish area of Lewis on 23 November last year. The trial is expected to last for about three weeks. A further preliminary hearing will take place in January.

Pat Sutherland has spent 13 years investigating artefacts recovered from Baffin Island and mainland Canada. The items are similar to those made in Greenland and European Viking sites. Dr Sutherland said they suggest close contact between the Norse and hunters known as the Dorset, who mysteriously disappeared in the 14th Century.
