Woman ‘adopts’ 16 orphaned lambs

Anna MacDonald, of Balranald, North Uist, takes about an hour to feed the lambs formula milk from a bottle. At one point she was looking after 18, however, two were matched up with a ewe. The lambs came from local crofters who did not have time themselves to feed them on top of their other work. The animals would have perished without help from the crofters, or Mrs MacDonald. Consultation on proposals for crofting elections Plans to make the Crofters Commission more democratic and accountable have been unveiled today by Environment Minister Stewart Stevenson. The proposals recommend that the majority of the Crofters Commission, to be renamed the Crofting Commission from April 2012, should be elected by crofters. A consultation on the draft plans, which starts today, also covers the constituency boundaries for the elections and who should be eligible to vote.
