Fury as NHS spends £5M on taxis to ferry patients around Scotland

HEALTH chiefs have been accused of running a chauffeur service after it emerged they spent more than £5million on taxis for patients. One health board – NHS Ayrshire and Arran – splashed out almost £1.9million on private taxis since 2007. NHS Highland paid £1.14million in cab fares for the same period. But neither would reveal how much of the total went on ferrying patients. NHS Lanarkshire admitted they spent nearly £1million in five years ferrying patients by cabs.
