Eairdsidh is Nìall ann an Èirinn

Cluinnear Eairdsidh Caimbeul agus Nìall Caimbeul a’ beachdachadh an seo air na chunnaic iad ann an Èirinn. Chaidh iad ann le Guthan nan Eilean airson bruidhinn mu dheidhinn na tha a’ tachairt sa choimhearsnachd an seo leis a’ Ghàidhlig. Bha taisbeanadh ann air a’ chiad latha, agus an uair sin cothrom airson filmichean goirid a dhèanamh air an dàrna latha. ‘S e cuairt inntinneach a bh’ ann gun teagamh sam bith. A Gaelic Journey: Benbecula to Ranafast

Here’s an example of the work that was done when a team of Uibhistich went over to Ireland recently. The purpose of the trip was to introduce the “Island Voices” project and way of working to a Donegal community where the Irish language is still strong. This short film was made, with versions in English and Irish and Scottish Gaelic. Additional recordings (video and audio) were also made of people speaking naturally, in the same way as we do over here. In the film you can also hear some of Neil and Archie Campbell’s thoughts on what they’ve learned on the visit. (Tha tionndadh Gàidhlig ri fhaighinn air duilleagan Guthan nan Eilean.)

Interview with Gloria MacKillop

Loriana Pauli adds another sparkling Island Voice to her collection of local interviews. Gloria arrived on Berneray 46 years ago, the ‘island of bachelors’, to be a relief district nurse.  Her plan to stay for three months and then go back to Australia fell apart when she met ‘Splash’, her husband to be.  In this lively account Gloria tells us  how she found unexpected family members in Scotland. She speaks  about her first years on the island, how she learned to cope with boats, with crofting life, how life was before the causeway connected the island to North Uist, how Berneray became  ‘home’. There are more pictures on Loriana’s own blog post here. (If you use an iPad or iPhone you may need to follow this link to hear the interview below. )
