Schools are re-opening this week in mid-August after the summer break. Parents and pupils may have been mulling over the value of choosing Gaelic-medium education, an option which Comhairle nan Eilean Siar strongly supports. Professor Dick Johnstone is an expert in the field of bilingual education, and has researched and compared various approaches around the world. Last year he paid a flying visit to Uist to find out, among other things, about the Island Voices project. Waiting for his return flight to the mainland at Benbecula Airport he spoke to Gordon Wells for 15 minutes about some of the important things he’s found out about bilingualism and education.
