Highlands and Islands Labour MSP and Shadow Minister for Finance and Infrastructure, Rhoda Grant, has said she is “disgusted” at the apathy being displayed by Scottish Ministers towards solving broadband connection problems in rural areas. Scottish Labour has been pressing the SNP Government to invest in rural broadband since it came into power in 2007.  Telecoms industry leader, BT, has also expressed fears that island communities will lose out on broadband connections unless the Scottish Government makes urgent investment.  The infrastructure to deliver broadband to rural areas needs vast improvement and community solutions need to be adopted to bring ‘last mile’ connections to some of Scotland’s remotest rural communities.
