The recent announcement from Environment Minister, Stewart Stevenson, that the Government has approved a marine SAC at East Mingulay and that the site will be forwarded to the EU for approval, has prompted an angry reaction from SHAMED (Southern Hebrides Against Marine Environmental Designations), a local campaign which is opposing plans to designate two marine SACs in the sea east of Mingulay and in the Sound of Barra. The Minister has also stated that proposals for the Sound of Barra will be going out to public consultation in the near future say the campaigners.
