In the athletics at the Fairway Sports Centre, Shetland’s Haydn Thomason made it to the final of the men’s 200m which takes place tonight after coming fourth earlier today in his semi-final in a time of 22.95, beating Alasdair Summers of the Western Isles and James Flett and Thomas Newton from Orkney. In his heat yesterday, Haydn was third in 23.05.

Fellow sprinters Faye Richardson and Megan Smith secured places in tonight’s semi-finals of the women’s 100m, Faye coming second in her heat in a time of 12.93, Megan fifth in hers in 13.59.

Joshua Morrison came sixth in his semi-final today in the men’s 800m, less than a third of a second behind the third placed runner. He was first yesterday in his heat. Alan Williamson was eighth in the same semi-final, having been fifth in his heat yesterday.

Meanwhile Eilidh Peterson was sixth in the women’s triple jump final with a distance of 10.63.

Also on Sunday, Karl Simpson and Russell Gair were eighth in the men’s half marathon team race, having secured 17th and 18th places individually, Karl in a time of 1.20.18 and Russell in 1.21.47.

In the women’s event Charlotte Black, who was 12th in the individual event in a time of 1.33.24, and Karen Fraser, who came in 14th in 1.36.05, were fifth in the team race.
