>> An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic people to be part of a pilot to shape Aberdeenshire Council’s Home Care Out of Hours Service. We’re looking for people available to respond to situations in the community. Supported by an Out of Hours Home Care Supervisor, you will be required to respond to situations in the community. The work is varied and interesting with the job satisfaction that comes from being part of a vital service in the community, meeting the needs of future homecare services.
>> A combination of day work and out of hour’s responding is required in this post. Evening and night work will be carried out by two home carers working as part of a mobile team in a car. There is also opportunity for a day worker to provide visits to people enabling them to be cared for at home and to avoid being admitted to hospital. Appropriate enhancements are paid for all evening and weekend work.
>> This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. An offer of employment by Aberdeenshire Council will be subject to the outcome of this check being satisfactory. The preferred candidate will also be required to provide an Overseas Criminal Records Check from other countries as deemed necessary. An offer of employment by Aberdeenshire will be subject to the outcome of this check being satisfactory.

Job Purpose
>> Home carers are member of a caring team led by the Homecare Supervisor, whose responsibilities are to assist people with disabilities or those who are ill or frail to maintain their ability to live independently in the Community, by providing them with support in their homes, by providing both planned and unplanned care. The support given by Home Carers enables the service users to achieve the activities of daily living and maintain their quality of life.
Main Tasks

- Communicate effectively with Homecare Supervisor
- To respond to planned and unplanned calls outwith office hours
- To use transport provided by Aberdeenshire Council as a means of travel between service users
- Receive and provide a comprehensive handover report to the Out of Hours Home Care Supervisor
- Ensure H&S procedures are adhered to regarding moving and use of any equipment
- Ensure that buildings are left secure and otherwise manage the safe keeping of equipment and a council vehicle
Experience/Qualifications/Personal Qualities
- Awareness of the needs of older people or people with a disability
- Ability to record relevant information
- Current clean driving licence
- Ability to drive van
- Ability to relate to elderly and disabled people
- Understanding of the needs and rights of elderly and disabled people
- Ability to work on own initiative and within service guidelines requirements
- Ability to build and sustain appropriate professional relationships
- Communication skills – written and verbal
