Job Purpose
>> To bring leadership, good management and strategic direction to the school
>> To conduct the affairs of the school to the benefit of the pupils and community it serves
>> To take responsibility for whole school policy, its implementation and evaluation
>> To manage and develop the school curriculum and learning and teaching provision
>> To develop, articulate and promote an agreed set of values for the school
Main Tasks
- Leadership, Good Management and Strategic Direction of Colleagues: Lead, manage and support staff in pursuing the agreed objectives of the school and the Authority and implementing all agreed policies
- Curriculum and Quality Development. To ensure that the needs of the school community are met by the provision of an appropriate high quality curriculum
- Whole School Policy and Implementation. To lead the development of whole school policies and their subsequent implementation and evaluation
- Working with Partners. To develop good partnerships and relationships with external partners and stakeholders and to promote the inclusive school in the community
- Learning and Teaching. To contribute to the delivery of a quality education to pupils in accordance with authority and school policies
Experience/Qualifications/Personal Qualities
>> Essential Criteria
- Experience at Head Teacher or Depute Head Teacher level
- Evidence of success in management of change and school improvement
- Lead role in development of cross-curricular areas and whole school issues
- Very good understanding of national curriculum policies and priorities
- Registered or eligible to be registered with GTC Scotland
- Participation in further professional development and training
- Able to work effectively as part of a team (member and leader)
- Awareness of requirements of post of Head Teacher and ability to relate past experience to these
- Very good communicator (orally and written)
- Strategic thinker
- Ability to translate vision into action
- Very good organisation and administration skills
- Ability to delegate and prioritise
- Leadership qualities including the ability to motivate and inspire others
- Genuine interest in children and their families
